The Obama-McCain age gap that matters (by Magnus)

When Obama will be elected he is 47 years old, which is very young for a president. McCain is 25 years older when he will be elected, which is a big difference. It is possible that the younger generations vote Obama because his view of life is more like the view of the young voters. But on the other hand he could be too young for a president. McCain maybe will be voted for by the older generations, and with his 72 years his view of life is different to Obama's, but different doesn't mean wrong.
One important point is that Obama is much healthier than McCain, it could be possible that McCain gets ill or maybe dies in his presidential time.
Obama's vice presidential candidate, Joe Biden, is the "older" part of Obama, he should make Obama more attractive to the older generations, Sarah Palin, the running maid of McCain is the opposite, she is younger than McCain and should make him more attractive to the younger generations.

A women for president? (by Lisa W)

Many people thought, that Hillary Clinton wouldn't have chances to be voted for US-president. But her chances weren't bad in the beginning. At the primaries there where many indications for her to be the first women as president. But her advantage got smaller and smaller. Her biggest competitor was Barack Obama. Many people in the USA thought that a woman for president wouldn't be great, because they said that a woman can't do this job as good as a man.
But Germany is the best example for showing America, that it can work very well. There are many examples for women who govern a country. Also England has the queen and they revere her. There is song for her called god save the queen and not good save the king.
By the way India had a women called Indira Gandhi for Prime Minister.

The role of race in the American election (by Tina)

87% white Americans and 13% black Americans live in the USA.
The difference to previous presidential campaigns is, that there's an African-American now expected. Senator Barack Obama would be the first African-American president of the United States.
A new study shows, that racial prejudices could play a big role in this year's election. If there weren't any racial differences, Obama would receive 6% more, according a news poll (=Nachrichtenumfrage).
It says that about 40% of the white Americans have a negative view against the black Americans, including more than 1/3 of white Democrats and independents. And 2,5% of the voters said, they may turn away from the candidate because of his race.
Barack Obama himself says to all these discussions about race, that there will be people who won't vote for him because he's black, but there are also some people who will vote for him because he is, so it doesn't matter.

In my opinion there souldn't be any discussions about race, because it doesn't matter which colour people have. They should vote for him because his political attitude.
